"Star Merak" is a male vocal group for authentic folklore from the town of Bansko with instructor Boris Hadzhipopov.

The male vocal group for authentic folklore from the town of Bansko "Star Merak" is set up in 1991 with the idea to preserve the genuine tradition of the unique male singing. This style of singing is typical only of the town of Bansko. And as people of Bansko describe it poetically "It is like the heavy chimes that echoes through the ages in Pirin Mountain". The real charm of the singing of Bansko is in the active performing. Because and the most modern sound-recording technique cannot render its wealth, vividness and sounding.

The male vocal group for authentic folklore from the town of Bansko has won more than once prizes and insignia of honor because of the authentic sounding of the songs. As for ten years of its existence it has more over two hundreds folk songs in its repertoire. The group consists of fourteen singers. As the oldest of them is seventy-five years old and the youngest one is only fifteen. The singing is authentic and genuine.

The group takes part in many national fairs for folk-art and wins lots of charters and medals. With its participation in three consecutive fairs "Pirin Mountain sings" it won three golden medals. It took part in the singing competitions in Koprivshtitsa four times. The group became a winner of honor token of the fair and honor member of the foundation "Koprivshtitza". The male folk group is honored with a silver statuette of the National fair"Rozhen-2000" and it became a winner of the honor token of the Balkan Mountains fair "Balkan-folk"-2001.
